Ceramics of Medieval Japan The Six Old Kilns and Their World INTRODUCTION:The book was published on the occasion of the exhibition "Ceramics of Medieval Japan: The Six Old Kilns and Their World" held in 2010 at Miho Museum, the Ibaraki Ceramic Art Museum, the Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum, the Fukui Prefectural Pottery Museum, and the Yamaguchi Prefecture Hagi Uragami Museum. This exhibition featured approximately 170 representative pieces produced at six ancient kilns (Seto, Tokoname, Echizen, Shigaraki, Tamba and Bizen) in Japan during the medieval period, as well as pieces from other regions, and explored the overall image and appeal of medieval pottery. The exhibition is also the culmination of 30 years of research into the history of medieval ceramics, and was a large-scale exhibition that traveled to five venues in Japan. -------------------------------The contents are written in both Japanese and English.
