Description: This listing is for a new Century Wings Vought A-7E Corsair II USN VA-25 "Fist of the Fleet, NE400, USS Ranger, 1975 Die-cast Model. This model was released in 2008 with only 2,000 pieces distributed world wide. The outer box has some scuff marks , and the opening flap separated due to dried glue (see the last 4 pictures). Model in the photos belongs to my collection. Scale: 1/72 Length: 7.75" Width: 6.5" (wingspan) In October 1968, VA-25 traded their A-1 Skyraiders for the A-7 Corsair II and deployed to Southeast Asia. In October 1970, the Fists began a long and successful relationship with the USS Ranger. In the following two years, the squadron made two more combat cruises, expending over 15 million pounds of ordnance on targets in Laos and Vietnam. The squadron made four more deployments in the 70s aboard Ranger. Following the cease fire with North Vietnam on January 27th, 1973, the squadron concentrated its attention on strikes against lines-of-communication targets in Laos until an agreement was reached with that country. Vought A-7E Corsair IIDesigned as a longer-range, higher-payload replacement for the A-4 Skyhawk, the A-7 Corsair II was first flown on September 27th, 1965. This aircraft entered service during the Vietnam war and later became one of only a few US Navy aircraft to serve with the US Air Force. It possessed cutting edge technologies; it was one of the first aircraft to use a turbofan engine, an internal navigation system and a "head-up" display. Late in its career, A-7s were used for pilot training and were parked outside of hangars in order to draw the attention of Soviet spy satellites away from the fledgling F-117.
