Originally a Catholic priest, Overbeck converted to Lutheranism and then to Eastern Orthodoxy. He believed that Orthodoxy was destined to replace both Catholicism and Anglicanism in the West, and he worked to adapt Eastern Rite liturgical forms for use in England.
