Description: This unique Bas low relief sculpture is a one-of-a-kind piece that captures the essence of Australia's art nouveau period. Crafted from wax, this medium-sized wall art features a firepit, fire, swagman, and mailda, depicting the iconic scene from the famous Australian folk song. The attention to detail and handmade quality make this sculpture a true masterpiece. The sculpture measures 10 inches in length and 9 inches in width, and is signed by the artist. The perfect addition to any art collection, this unique piece is sure to add a touch of Australian culture and history to any space. Waltzing Matilda has been labelled Australia's 'unofficial' national anthem. The song (originally a poem) was written by Australian poet, Banjo Paterson in the late 19th Century while he was staying at Dagworth Station, a cattle station near Winton in Central West Queensland. Based on a true story, it is about a man who lives in the Australian outback in his swag, where he gets himself into trouble by killing the sheep of a landowner nearby. While the song sounds like a 'boppy' tune, it actually has quite a dark meaning behind it. Joseph Jenkins - who lived the kind of life later immortalised in the Australian folk song "Waltzing Matilda" - came from Trecefel, Tregaron, in modern-day Ceredigion. The diary he kept each day for 25 years as a "Swagman", or itinerant farm labourer, in Victoria is one of the most comprehensive and contemporary descriptions of colonial life in Australia. But Joseph was neither "jolly", nor - by birth at least - "a swagman".
