People, pets, and humming birds alike have enjoyed many activities beneath the parent's shady frawns, especially during heat waves. The parent was planted around 1950. This listing's photograph of the parent tree is from June 2024 when it was at least 74 years old. It has stood tall during huricane winds that exceeded 90 mph after Cyclone Bombs that blew out the wall of a metal shed, several historically severe droughts, hail storms, and a little snow in it's youth, remaining ever green all the while. Canary Island Date Palm is also widely known as a Phoenix Palm. The date palm tree is easily recognized through its crown of leaves and trunk characteristics. It's not uncommon to see Canary Island Date palms, pruned and trimmed to enhance their appearance. The Canary Island Date Palm is a stately palm tree that hails from a group of islands off the coast of Africa called the Canary Islands. These date bearing palm trees have been adorning the most beautiful homes and businesses around the world with their majestic look. The Canary Island Date Palm comes from the Phoenix Lineage and hence is equipped with sharp needle-point thorns that run up along the leaf stem. The Canary Island Date palm stands by itself and needs no introduction, it is found in all the main resorts and cosmopolitan centers across any tropical or sub-tropical areas. Canary Island Date palm is a wonderful specimen for those that want to make a statement. Officially, the Canary Island Date palm is very meticulous when it is a small plant but when full grown offers a more stable easy-maintenance routine. In the south western United States, these are nearly no maintenance at every stage of their life. As long it is watered every now and then and fertilized 3 to 4 times a year, the Canary Island Date palm tree will grow to its massive stately size and crown its top with large 10 to 15 feet long deep-green leaves that spiral around giving the tree its rightful crown.
