Description: This pair is a matching pair of 1956 California license plates. They qualify for CA DMV registration of model years 1956 thru 1962 passenger vehicles. Condition Overall they are in good condition with original paint. These are DMV issued steel plates. They have some minor rust spots around the outer edges and scratches and divots around the mounting holes. Many of the defects would be covered by license plate frames. Please view the pictures for condition. Front plate This plate has a minor impact in the middle of the plate between the letters and the numbers, and wiggles on the left edge just below the California lettering, and also below the X. Rear plate has a 1962 sticker with a red sticker (1961) peeking out underneath. If you are patient with a dull pen knife the top sticker can be chipped off exposing the 1961 sticker. There is a minor impact in the middle of the 7, kinda masked by the black line. It is a typical example of a rear plate that is mostly undamaged. California YOM programThey can be used to register a passenger vehicle model years 1956 thru 1962 in the state of California under the YOM program. A 1956 model year car can use them as is without stickers. 1957 thru 1960 model year cars must have the vehicle's proper model year sticker. 1957 thru 1960 stickers are available on other ebay sites. I have not heard of anyone having a problem with the DMV and reproduction stickers. 1961 cars would need the 1962 sticker scraped off or a replacement 1961 sticker. 1962 cars can use the sticker already showing. You can see the DMV paperwork by going to dmv.ca.gov and search for YOM, look for the PDF file for the form. The form lists the requirements for plates to qualify. Note that although the program is called "Year of Manufacture" (YOM), the required license sticker must match the MODEL year of the vehicle to be registered. The DMV will issue the proper month and year stickers when registering. They will also include license toppers to display the current month and year registration stickers as shown in the last picture, if you do not want to display the current stickers on the original plates.
