These cards come from an album belonging to the Croll family, originally from Stawell in Victoria. The family were very keen bushwalkers, bird observers, field naturalists – many of these cards were sent by various family members while on holiday at such Victorian places as Phillip Island, Queenscliff, Barwon Heads, Lorne, Rivernook, Healesville, Grampians, Halls Gap, Mt. Buffalo, Belgrave. There are extensive Croll family biographies on-line; the majority of the cards were either to or from Charles Henderson Croll, his wife Maria (May), their children Eric, Eleanor (Nellie) and Ian. The family lived “Gwylata” Elphin Grove Glenferrie. The earliest date from around 1903 and the latest are mid 1920s. Many cards to come; these cards show various NSW locations. Happy to combine. c1906 FRANK HURLEY COLOURED REAL PHOTO “THE STEEL TRACK SYDNEY” JFH 121 UNUSED #6 One of Hurley’s most famous images, and a best seller. Refers to the signal Box outside Sydney’s Central Railway, newly opened in 1906. A night photo, beautifully hand coloured. Titled in the plate and signed JFH (James Francis Hurley) 121.
