Description: c1790 PAIR ANTIQUE 18thC FRENCH NIDERVILLER PORCELAIN OVAL FLORAL SERVING PLATES Description: A superb pair of large antique porcelain oval serving plates, made by Niderviller of Lorraine, France, and dating to the late 18th Century, circa 1790. This pair of plates, with scalloped rim painted blue, are hand painted in polychrome enamels with delicate sprays of flowers to the centre and four to the rim. Both plates bear painted marks to the underside 'N 349', together with incised mark '189'. Niderviller is one of the most famous French porcelain and faïence pottery manufacturers, founded in the village of Niderviller, Lorraine, France in 1735. It began as a maker of faïence (tin-glazed earthenware) and also made hard-paste porcelain from the second half of the 18th Century.
