Frame - matted and in period Victorian molded frame, solid walnut, ebonized and gilt trim, original striated glass. Print/sheet - 15” wide, 9.5” tall, approx. 1.5” margins on sides, .5” top/bottom. Sight/plate - 11.5” wide, 8.5” tall. Frame - 22.25” wide, 18.25” tall. Condition – excellent, no spotting, appears to be original size sheet. 2047 - One of the earliest obtainable views of the American Revolutionary War Battle of Bunker Hill, a hard won battle by the British that made them take the ‘rebels’ more seriously. This is a desirable and historically important engraving from the 1783 publication New Complete Authentic History of England by Edward Bernard, London. - This print shows four British warships on the Charles River landing troops and firing on Charlestown. A British battery on Copp’s Hill in Boston also fires on Charlestown which is in flames, showing the assault on “Bunker’s Hill” (actually Breed’s Hill). - New Complete Authentic History of England, Benard’s, London: Edward Barnard, 1781-83.
