Description: Tall pitcher by Dorothy Thorpe. Features hand painted florals in pink, green, and yellow. I was not successful in identifying this pattern name. Note I have a large round platter (13" diameter) also by Thorpe from the same estate in this pattern. See eBay item #235743119843. Combined shipping always applies. Born in Salt Lake City in 1901, Dorothy Thorpe was a mid-century American artist who designed beautiful glassware and ceramic pieces out of her Los Angeles studio. Like many of her mid-century contemporaries, such as Georges Briard and Fred Press, she was a designer, not a manufacturer, of glassware. She purchased simple blank glassware, mostly crystal, from U.S. and European manufacturers and decorated them with her personal designs. In 1945, Thorpe wrote to a collector that many of her floral motifs, which included eucalyptus, irises, roses and narcissus flowers, were inspired by flora and fauna that surrounded her on trips she took to Hawaii. Hallmarks: None. While some Thorpe pieces are signed with a large “T” and a smaller “D”, many of her pieces found today do not carry her signature or her original logo sticker. Known to be a Thorpe piece by previous owner, who specifically collected her works. Approximate age: Previous owner stated this pitcher was a wedding gift in 1978. Dimensions: 9" tall, 4-7/8" base diameter, 3.75" top diameter, 7" maximum depth. Condition: Good collectible or giftable condition. Mentionable issue: Slight paint erosion just below spout (see last photo). Otherwise, no paint losses or underside scratching observed. No chips, flakes, flea bites, breaks, cracks, pits or other mentionable issues. Don't feel anything amiss when I run finger around edges. Unpacked weight: 2 lbs. 5 oz. Always happy to pass through discounts on combined shipping. I only charge actual postage, and always use recycled packing materials. Note some photos appear redundant because I take photos from all possible angles. On symmetrical items, these photos may appear redundant when there are no distinguishing differences or condition issues between side views. I gladly accept returns, but please note I do not pay return postage unless there was a significant error in my description. The item listed is being sold as is, as pictured and as described to the best of my knowledge. All dimensions and weights approximate. If you have a question or an assumption on an item prior to purchase, please ask. I much prefer to take the time on the front end to make sure you will be satisfied with your purchase. Remember, when buying vintage expect imperfections as these items have a history and have been in the possession of others. I try to list EVERY flaw which would be commented on something in an antique or vintage condition – this does not mean all imperfections resulting from normal wear & use require comment. My goal is to have no rude surprises upon receipt.
