Description: The Life of Harman Blennerhassett: Comprising an Authentic Narrative of the Burr Expedition, by William Safford, Chillicothe: Ely, Allen & Looker, 1850. HB, 239 pgs. Description: Harman Blennerhassett, 1764-1831, emigrated from Ireland to the United States in 1796. He joined VP Aaron Burr's expedition to carve off part of the Louisiana Territory in Texas for an independent estate (1806-1807). Bad idea. Both men were arrested, Blennerhassett was imprisoned in Virginia for a year. He later went to Canada and ultimately back to Europe. Book is brown boards with gilt titles, 8 x 5 x 1. Printed in Ohio. Frontispiece is of Blennerhassett Mansion in what is now Parkersburg WV, where a replica mansion has been built on Blennerhassett Island. The biography stops at p. 210. An Appendix contains correspondence. a poem about the key battle, and the legal brief in the case of US vs Harman Blennerhassett. Condition: Good. The cover has damage to the top of the spine. The book is not Exlib, but has a small name stamp on the FEP. I saw no writing or page tears, and light foxing. But a couple pages have heavy spotting, such as from spills -- pp. 22-23, See photo 11. Rarity: There are other copies of this edition on Ebay, starting at $137. Price: Buy-It-Now is $45 plus $8 mailing cost (US only). Provenance: this book is item #RH485, part of a book trove found in 2009. Reader's Heaven was a used bookstore that closed in Independence Missouri. I purchased the rights to sort through and purchase any of the remaining stock of the estimated 22,000 books. In the attic, back rooms and closets, boxes of books were found that had not been opened in decades. None of this stock had ever been offered on Ebay or elsewhere in the online marketplace.
