Description: Bruttium, Croton. c.500-480 BC. AR stater. QPO (retrograde), tripod with leonine feet on thick exergual line, decorated with coiled serpents facing away from one another on rim; serpents rearing between legs of tripod facing away from one another, crab left in left field, dotted border on thick raised band / QPO (retrograde), incuse tripod, crab left in left field; ethnic and crab in relief, striated border within incuse band. HN Italy 2085 var. (no serpents). An excellent example of this fun type. I have been unable to find anther example from these dies. NGC Graded Choice VF.
