Description: First paperback edition of Mum's the Word for Murder, by Brett Halliday (Dell, 1938 publication date listed, but actually a 1953 printing). This book was originally published in 1938 under the pseudonym Asa Baker (who is also the narrator of the novel), but the book was not a success. The next year, Halliday introduced his very popular Michael Shayne character, and the writer's career improved dramatically. Dell reissued this early book in 1953 under Halliday's name, and it fared much better. This book is in very good condition, with a slightly hinged front cover but with a very tight spine and no rips, tears, marks, or other major signs of wear.
