Brendan Pollard "Two Roads" New CD Special Offer [ Tangerine Dream ]

Description: I have a few copies that are not sealed but still mint and unplayed. Special offer price £5.50 Brendan Pollard/ Javi Canovas/ Adrian Dolente/ Michael Daniel "TWO ROADS" Brand New Factory Pressed silver cd released on the Acoustic Wave Label, catalogue number AW013 on June 20th 2013 Way back in 2006 my good friend Javi wanted to make a recording together but time passed by and we never got around to doing it. After a certain amount of persuasion and with the help of some good friends we are proud to announce this new release. We also have Michael Daniel from Pollard Daniel Booth and my old synth technician Adrian Dolente. My thanks to the kind people who lent me back some gear to make this recording. Recorded in Bedford, Liverpool and Tenerife December 2012 to March 2013 all tracks composed and performed by Pollard/Canovas/Dolente/Daniel 1. Compendium 2. Route of Industrial Signatures 3. Vista 4. Conjunction ‘Compendium’ opens in an ethereal place with faint synth themes, Mellotron strings and background effects leading up to the four-minute mark where a sequencer rhythm drifts on to the soundstage, and from there it hits a real Teutonic run complemented by bursts of guitar and synth improvisations with added swells of Mellotron from time to time. At the thirteen-minute mark the wind-down begins and the band gradually drift back into the atmospheric mists of time – This is the real deal as far as the “Berlin School” stuff goes – Edgar would be proud! ‘Route Of Industrial Signatures’ opens into a kaleidoscopic world of phased spacey sounds, electronic bird noise and washes of choral and brass Mellotron effects. After three minutes a vamping synth rhythm emerges through the misty haze backdrop of distant Mellotron choirs and rippling synth effects. As the six-minute mark approaches the sequencer takes on extra fuel and prepares to take-off. A fanfare of subdued Mellotron brass heralds the launch of a driving sequencer fest, which is joined by what sounds like a dual electric guitar improv, counter-balanced by synth solos along the way, but the standard atmospheric ending does not come until the final minute. ‘Vista’ opens to the sounds of rippling waters within a jungle of electronic effects and spacey synth textures that builds up quite a peaceful picture. Two minutes in sees the arrival of cavernous, ghostly, choral voices that are dream-like, very spacey and almost alien in nature, and this leads to just past the five-minute mark where a light sequencer riff backed with sweet Mellotron chords floats through the sound-space and gradually gathers pace and volume as it goes. At the eight-minute mark a graceful high-register synth solo improv joins the flow, followed by spurts of shooting star synth effects. The eerie space choir returns at the eleven-minute mark and just as the sequencers have built up a real head of steam. Dreamy Mellotron strings sweep in at the fifteen-minute point to signal the rhythms that it’s time to slow up and fade down in the mix, closing the track quietly. Another real slab of “Berlin School” at its very best! ‘Conjunction’ opens in a beautiful place where melodic Mellotron flute and soft waves of cosmic synths fill the air, with Fender Rhodes sounds forming echoed counter melodies and creating a fantastic atmosphere. At the three-minute mark it’s sequencer time again, and this time there’s no real build-up as they come in with a bang and take the piece on a strong rhythmic current with synth melodies and sweeping strokes of Mellotron currents coming and going as the track continues. A patch of whispering electronic voices at the eight-minute mark bring in new high-reg synth improvs and lead the track into its final four minutes where the sequencers burst out in flurries of dynamic energy, and with a real vibrancy that is missing from many other works of this type. There is no extended atmospheric outro on this track with the sequencer taking it right into the final minute and making a quick exit to leave only a few seconds of spiralling synth swirls in the final fade. As far as the “Berlin School” stuff goes, this is right up there with the best of them. The improvised music has its roots firmly planted in early-mid 70’s TANGERINE DREAM and Klaus Schulze territory and is never dull or boring, always seeming to be going somewhere on its journeys. The production is very good too, with the balance of the instruments very evenly placed, and the sequencer work is well constructed and energetic, without becoming overbearing at any point. If you’re a fan of the classic “Berlin School” style – they don’t come much better than this! Payment via Paypal and shipping costs are £1.50 to UK, Europe £3.50 and Rest of World £4.50
