It comes in a beautiful wooden frame suitable for hanging made by Van Hygan & Smythe, the Certificate of Authenticity and details about the animal and the artist, Charles Frace'. Painting on a fine china plate with the utmost care and exquisite detail captures the essence of each cat in the collection showing the artists love for these animals. Fired in 1992 and crafted under the hallmark of W.S. George, this plate is produced in an edition strictly limited to a maximum of 150 firing days. The Bradex No. is 84-G20-88.1. To the cheetah, speed is life. Clocking a cheetah at 60 MPH gives this big cat the ability to outrun its preferred prey, the gazelle. The cheetah's stamina is short so it must hide motionless until it can quickly catch its prey. They cheetah must also consume it quickly or risk losing it to vultures, hyenas, or other, stronger predatory cats. One leg bite from a hyena could easily impair the cheetah's running ability threatening its very survival. Often the cheetah is forced to abandon its booty long before it's hunger pangs are satiated Both the hunter and the hunted, the cheetah was routinely victimized by poachers before legislation was enacted to protect this critically endangered animal. Its magnificent fur, once fashionable for coats, is now strictly illegal for trade. About the artist, Charles Frace', champion of wildlife, was born in a small mining town in eastern Pennsylvania called East Mauch Chunk (Indian for Bear Mountain). He found a special home in the wooded foothills nearby and discovered the wonders of the outdoors in full bloom. At the age of five, with his sketchbook as his friend, he recorded nature's surprises. After graduating with honors from the Philadelphia College of Art, Mr. Frace' started a career as a freelance illustrator in New York. But, in the early 1960s, a photo assignment in Florida, at the bird and wildlife sanctuary of the late John Hamlet, changed his life. His passion for wildlife was renewed; he painted as one who shares a spiritual bond with animals. Within ten years, he gave up his work as an illustrator permanently, devoting all of his time to fine art.
