Description: Boone Style Hand Forged Spurs overlaid silver, Custom made Bill Allison Straps. Boone Style "Salmon River"half mounted spurs This is a hand forged set of one piece spurs. The steel to construct the spurs was first bumped up and then drawn out and taper forged to the correct thickness and width with my hammer and anvil to the correct dimension from a piece of 7 inch 3/4 x 3/4 mild steel. The shank was cut with an electric hacksaw and then filed by hand to its final shape. I built a graver tool from a worn out round file and chased the inside shank and heel bands with Bob Boones style of iron chasing. The heel bands were then stamped while hot with two different stamping tools which I forged from annealed coil spring steel. After the stamp pattern was cut out onto the tool with a file it was hardened in oil before use. The heel bands were then split and shaped to fit a size 8 mens's cowboy boot. The heel buttons were forged out of 3/8 inch round stock and headed out while hot on a heading tool made from a section of flat truck spring. The heel buttons have been cut with a nc-20die to thread into the bands and can be removed to allow for easier use of changing out and adjusting spur straps The 3 1/2inch ten point rowel was cut out from 3/8 mild steel plate and reduced to .350thickness to give the rowel points a more complete tapered cone shape. Each point was meticulously cut and hand filed to shape. The rowel pin was inset into the outside shank and riveted on the inside of the shank. Three, 1oz Canadian maple leave's were hammered to a .45 to .50 thickness, cut out, and overlaid on the outside of the spur's buttons, heel bands, and shank. The silver was then engraved with a similar pattern seen on Bob Boone's Brazo's spurs, except for the change in the river's name to "Salmon"in reference to Idaho's famous Salmon River and our families local geographic tie to this river. The steel parts on the spur's have been treated with an accelerated rusting technique to give them an antique and slightly pitted look. Cowboy Hall of Fame saddle maker Bill Allison of Roundup Montana,( yet another geographic tie for us)built the vintage style hand cut floral pattern leather spur straps included with the purchase of these spurs. His name is stamped on the inside of the straps. This set of spurs has the name "Law" stamped on the inside of each heel band. The detail in the creation of these spurs has been added for perspective buyers to understand the many hours of hand labor involved in creating this piece of western art. These spurs are humbly styled after the great Texas spur maker Bob Boone who built his spurs one at a time by hand.
