Description: We have stumbled upon this vintage looking young girl's horseback riding outfit, about which we know very little. It looks very well made and well preserved. Please contact me if you have any information or interest in this item. I welcome any questions or comments that you may have. Seemingly, this riding outfit is made out of heavy wool in a grey - blue color. The jacket has a double row of fabric covered buttons on front and pockets with flaps. It looks a bit like a pea coat in design. The trousers have zippers (marked Crown) at the bottom of the leg openings and a leather stirrup or strap at the bottom. They have a linen like lining, zippered closure with one button at the top on the front. There is an area of elastic sewn into the back of the trousers at the waist. The suspender like straps are adjustable with a metal buckle. No label is to be found in the trousers. The outfit shows very little signs of wear. Key words that might apply include: Riding Habit, Jodphers, Breeches, English horseback, Horse, boot straps, fox hunting gear. A Google search finds that Bonwit Teller was a department store in New York City, and also had a location in Philadelphia and elsewhere. Vintage magazine and newspaper ads can also be found advertising the company's equestrian togs. Per Wikipedia- In 1897, Edmund D. Teller was admitted to the partnership, and the store moved to 23rd Street, east of Sixth Avenue. Bonwit specialized in high-end women's apparel at a time when many of its competitors were diversifying their product lines, and Bonwit Teller became noted within the trade for the quality of its merchandise as well as the above-average salaries paid to both buyers and executives. The partnership was incorporated in 1907 and the store moved to the corner of Fifth Avenue and 38th Street. Throughout much of the 20th century, Bonwit was one of a group of upscale department stores on Fifth Avenue that catered to the "carriage trade." Among its most notable peers were Lord & Taylor and Saks Fifth Avenue.
