The book was a kind of bonsai manual that included notes on how to create a bonsai.The book contains 19 pictures of the 53 stations in the route (actually 55 pictures of the starting point (Nihonbashi) + 53 stations + the arrival point (Kyoto)) from the upper left of the first picture to Fujikawa Okazaki Chiryu Narumi Miya Kuwana Yokkaichi Ishiyakushi Shono Kameyama Seki Hannoshita Tsuchiyama Mizuguchi Ishibe Kusatsu Otsu Kyoto Sanjo Ohashi Ouchi (Kyoto Heian-kyo Nairi) and 19 pictures of the beautifully processed miniature flakes. The 19 items are beautifully processed miniature flake stickers.Correction: There is Ouchi (Kyoto Heian-kyo Nairi) at the end so there are 56 flake stickers in total.Size (*Please allow for possible errors.)Flake stickers are made of glossy paper (thickness: approx. 0.11mm) with good colors and the size is standardized to approx. 51 x 38mm.The 28 points seem to fit in an A4 photo frame.The fifth and sixth photos are images of 28 items displayed in each of those A4 photo frames.As a side note the well-known 53 Stages of the Tokaido consists of 55 sheets of ukiyoe but in order to use up half or eight equal sheets of large-size paper one more sheet was added for Ouchi (Uchiura) and Kyoshi (Kyoto) making the number of sheets 56 even. It is certainly a waste.Nevertheless the taste for bonkei and bonsai which began in the early Heian period and which tends toward the minuscule may be a uniquely Japanese sense of fun.
