As a 9 year old she was inspired to join a spiritual renewal movement in the Catholic Church for young people known as the Focolare Movement. At age 16 she was a vivacious, cheerful and active teen who loved hiking, tennis, music and hanging out with her friends, when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of bone cancer. For 2 years she underwent treatments of surgery, chemotherapy, and pain and suffering, accepting of God's great plan for her life. "If you want it, Jesus, I want it too" was her constant prayer. Chiara is truly a modern saint - she died at age 18 in 1990 and was beatified in 2010. Photos of her show the "Luce" or Light of her countenance which was simply beautiful. Such a great young saint! The medal is about 1" tall, oval & nickel silver. It comes on a 24" continuous stainless steel chain.
