Description: If you’re a fan of vintage dive watches you must have a Blancpain nestled snugly in your watch box. The BLANCPAIN BATHYSCAPHE Technisub is a beautifully designed professional grade watch in a contemporary 37mm size at an accessible undervalued price point. A tough, rugged, damn nice watch... The Collectors Blancpain diver… This is a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding Blancpain divers watch from the 1960’s - The 37mm steel case is very strong all-round and houses al soleil finish grey dial with silver text and Technisub in the lower half of the dial. The dial has large size raised lume filled hour markers that are a great match with the wide baton lume filled minute and hour hands. The original bakelite bezel is in fair condition given the age with a lume-filled triangle at 12. The Blancpain signed movement has been fully overhauled by a Swiss specialist watchmaker in good running order keeping accurate time and date, recent service invoice will accompany the watch. (Please note due to the age of this wonderful time piece it is no longer water resistant). Just looking at the dial, this watch fully deserves its Bathyscaphe Technisub status; it also offers a very attractive handset and rotating Bakelite bezel. The Bathscaphe definitely stands out among other diver watches of the period thanks to its unique sunburst dial. It also showcases a matching original bezel. The steel lume filled handset itself is also very distinctive, with a wide baton shape which is usually seen in military-issued pieces of the era. The oval case fully confirms the 1960’s origins of this unconventional Blancpain time piece. This Blancpain has uniform ageing, giving it a wonderful patina tone. This is a Blancpain that will set you apart!! It’s unpretentious and it’s beautiful. It’s an unapologetic subtlety that comes organically through a function first design. It feels slightly smaller on the wrist than its rival the Submariner, something surprising. This is due to the flowing curves of the turned lugs. When viewing the watch from above the eyes aren’t confronted by a single flat case surface, and are free to naturally trace along the bevels. The dial symmetry and the date version has led to increased demand. The crown has a low profile helping it maintain a sleek overall case design. It’s a rare treat to find a late 1960’s dive watch with its original dial and harder still to find one in reasonable condition. The development and commercialization of the SCUBA system in the 1930’s and subsequent rise in popularity of recreational diving brought to life a new breed of watch designed for the rigors of underwater exploration – the dive watch. Introduced in the 1960’s, the Blancpain range quickly carved out a place among dive watch icons like Omega Seamaster’s and Rolex’s Submariner’s. Catch it on the wrist of Actors or celebrities. Today the Bathyscaphe Techinisub remains Blancpain’s sought after series. This is an amazing Blancpain watch. On the wrist that has a truly unique aesthetic. The steel case is in solid condition and the watch retains all its original parts with the exception the aftermarket leather strap band. It is easy to be infatuated with this purposeful design. One cannot articulate well the physical difference in demeanour that the vintage piece brings to the table. It’s more of a feeling that comes with the texture of scratches, feeling of solidity, and solid sweep of ‘spear’ seconds sweep hand. With its applied logo, deep tritium, gunmetal sunburst dial, and steel case, one should be willing to bet it all on black for this watch… Most underrated and undervalued collectors Blancpain. A bargain compared to rivals of the era such as the ‘Double Red Sea dwellers’ which are achieving in excess of £30k in similar condition or even it’s big brother the Fifty Fathoums which are selling for 15k to 50k plus - Albeit a mystery why the comparative ‘Blancpain’ Bathyscaphe Technisubs are going for a song, clearly sleepers waiting to explode! You can never go wrong with a Blancpain. That sense of self-satisfaction at having something subtly different, something which most people won't recognise. Especially if you’re wearing a ‘Bathyscaphe Technisub’. The Original Dial: The dial symmetry and scarcity of the date version has led to increased demand. Large, highly visible lume plackets lay out the time with Blancpain signature batons. A clean and functional dial is achieved with the use of steel lume filled baton hands with large lume plackets. The bezel with bakelite insert can be depressed to rotate bi-directionally. Signed Blancpain Bathyscaphe Technisub Automatique Incabloc. Gun metal sunburst grey dial with lovely patina, wide pointed baton hands with aged lume filled inserts, matching spear seconds hand. The aged lume filled baton hour markers match the tone of the dial giving it vintage charm. The Dial has marks and soiling commensurate with age and everyday wear - Please observe photographs. Founded in 1735 by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in the quaint Swiss village of Villeret, Blancpain has an incredible history that spans over 280 years. From its humble beginnings as a small workshop, Blancpain has grown to become a global brand known for its exceptional craftsmanship, timeless designs, and innovative complications. Interestingly, despite the Quartz Crisis of the 1970s, Blancpain never produced a quartz watch, a testament to its unwavering commitment to traditional mechanical watchmaking. In fact, under the leadership of Jean-Claude Biver and Jacques Piguet, Blancpain played a significant role in reviving the mechanical watch industry, with the introduction of groundbreaking movements like the Calibre 6395.
