Description: Latin America - Antiques A statue depicting a typical Olmecoid sculpture, made of black jade, was used for pagan worship. The term "Olemcoid" refers to those ancient cultures that lived on the periphery of the Olmec and were heavily influenced by it. The Olmecs are generally considered to be the ultimate ancestor of all Middle America civilisations. It refers to a geographical and cultural area which extends from central Mexico down through Central America, including the territory which is now made up of the countries of Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, and El Salvador. This culture flourished from about 1200 to 400 BC, its base being the tropical lowlands of south-central Mexico. The statue looks ancient, kept in very good condition, I don't know its age. Approx. 4 1/2 inches high, 3 1/4 inches at widest, 800g.
