Our Price for this clock is $3750.00 Hubert Herr Double Cuckoo Quail Clock From the research I have done, and the information provided by the Clock Professional who restored this clock I believe this information is correct. This is an early Hubert Herr, Triberg, Germany, hanging quail/cuckoo clock, large hand carved hunter motif with game, powder horn, game bag and mounted stag head, wooden dial with applied numerals, carved bone hands, 30 hour cast brass cuckoo and quail quarter striking weight driven movement. Turn of the century, maybe earlier. Often referred to as a Black Forrest Clock. Condition: very large and impressively carved case in very good condition overall with a uniform opaque dark finish, a few minor shrinkage cracks, a couple of small missing “tips” on the carvings (nothing obvious). The numeral “VII” was missing and has been replaced with an old numeral “VII” the restorer had. The original “numerals” are carved bone that looks like ivory. The replacement is brass, colored to look like the originals. One of the rifle straps may have had a repair a long time ago. Recently professionally restored; new bellows, movement cleaned, works as originally intended. The Left hand “Quail” bird was missing and has been replaced. The Quail bird strikes on the quarter hour with 1, 2, 3, and 4 chirps while the cuckoo chirps on the hour with the appropriate number of chirps corresponding to the hour of the day. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION-supplied by a very helpful and knowledgeable old timer who frequented the Clock Shop that restored this clock. He suggested that this may be a Ketterer Clock. Theodor and Aron Ketterer are credited with creating the first spring driven automated clock (c.1840). (Theodor was the father, Aron was his son) Theodors great grandfather Franze Anton Ketterer is widely credited with creating the very first cuckoo clock c.1730. Please do your own research to verify this information. Study the photos for condition and possible “tells” of who made this wonderful clock.
