Measures 16” by 12 ½” Scientific name: Turdus pilaris Linnaeus, 1758 Dutch name: Fieldfare Bird Group: Thrushes Field Properties. 26 cm. Easily recognizable: the only thrush in the area with clear contrast between head , back , rump and tail . Adult has a blue-gray head and neck with black stripes and a black border around the ear; mantle , shoulder feathers and small cover featherswarm maroon with fine black spots; back and rump blue gray, tail black, other wing feathers black-brown with gray edges on outer wing and reddish edges on inner wing. Parts white with black spots (except in the middle of the abdomen) and with a golden haze on the chest and flanks; white wings. From the lower breast to the flanks, the round spots get a clear V- shape . Juvenile without clear adult contrast (except for the gray rump, which contrasts with black tail); brown head with gray ground color, 'saddle' less clear than with adult; parts heavily stained, but stains become more vague from flanks to the rear and lack the V-shape.
