Description: This is a rare April 1st, 1940 program (playbill) from the one-week, National Tour engagement of the CHARLES L. COOKE, DAVE GREGGORY and WILLIAM TRACY musical "HOT MIKADO" at the Shubert Theatre in Boston, Massachusetts. (The Original Broadway production opened March 23rd, 1939 at the Broadhurst Theatre in New York City and ran for 85 performances before going on the road.) ..... With lyrics and music by Sir WILLIAM S. GILBERT and Sir ARTHUR SULLIVAN, the show was based on their comic opera "THE MIKADO", but with "modernized tempos". The musical starred BILL "BOJANGLES" ROBINSON as "The Mikado" and featured MAURICE COOPER, JAMES A. LILLARD, MAURICE ELLIS, FREDDIE ROBINSON, ALICE HARRIS, ROSETTA LE NOIRE, PEARLE HARRISON, JOHN JACKSON, ROSE BROWN and LARRY SEYMOUR ..... CREDITS: Book and Lyrics by W. S.
