Description: This 141 year old Philadelphia playbill from the Bijou theater is a bit tattered but tells an interesting story. It featured Lillie Hinton, a young popular actress in Philly and Europe. Alas, she died at age 26, on Christmas Eve at her parent’s home on Broad Street and is buried at Mount Moriah Cemetery. The play “The Colleen Bawn” was a popular Irish melodrama, later made into a movie twice. The Bijou Theater was at 8th and Race St., which was demolished in the 40s and the site became Metropolitan Hospital. The playbill measures 7-1/2 by 5 inches and has folds and edge tears with minor loss at top L corner.
