Description: This is a Bertels Can Company snack Tin. The design is a Valentine's Day style featuring a little boy and girl in a Heart Tree Garden. The tin is white with a red lid and red and black art designs. It is 8 inches tall, 10 1/2 inches in diameter at the top and 9 1/8 inches in diameter at the bottom. The bottom of the tin is imprinted with the can company's logo: Bertels Can Co. Wilkes-Barre PA. Bertels produced snack tins for various retailers to use in the sale of their products. Betrtels produced tins for dozens of companies including Planters Peanuts, Hershey, Harry and David, Nabisco and The Popcorn Factory. In 1975 Bertels was the first company to introduce a printed can for popcorn. The company itself was acquired by The Independent Can Company in 2007 and the Wilkes-Barre plant was closed in 2008. There is no date on the tin itself but based an the company history it would be earlier than 2007. The tin is in very good condition with some darkening of the unpainted exterior metal. No significant denting or bending. The single seam is in excellent condition. The lid fits snuggly but slides off and on well. There is some paint wear around the top of the tin from the removal and replacement of the lid. There is one small but visible scratch on the white paint toward the base of the tin, between the little girl and one of the heart trees. There are also light scratches on the top of the lid. There is sticker residue on the bottom of the tin that I am guessing is what's left of the snack company label. Please see the photos.
