She was fascinated by the Aztec and Mayan archeological discoveries of the time and would often incorporate scrolls or design elements from ancient wall paintings into her designs. Bernice passed in 1971. Crafted from sterling silver, the brooch design was likely inspired by a pre-Columbian motif, but still feels fresh and current today.
