Description: Bellm Custom Accuracy Oversized Hinge Pins for TC Encores, Contenders, and G2s remove the shake and rattle at the hinge area, improve accuracy, and give the precision fit you find in the world's most expensive high grade guns. Any looseness at the hinge pin results in less than optimum accuracy. Tighten up the fit at the hinge pin, and accuracy nearly always improves. A snug fit at the hinge is essential to best accuracy. A barrel that shakes and rattles cannot be expected to place shots in the same place each time. You would not accept a bolt action rifle with a loose barrel, so why be expected to settle for a loose barrel on a break open gun? I have been selling the Contender Oversize Hinge Pins for nearly 25 years and have had literally thousands of reports of improved accuracy from the precise fit these pins provide at the hinge. According to TC and a few aftermarket shops, you are supposed to accept a loose barrel fit; however, there are tens of thousands of shooters using our oversize hinge pins that would strongly disagree with them. .3752 Oversize Hinge Pin ---- C/G2 - 3752 HPBellm Oversize Hinge Pins for Contenders, and now G2s, were first introduced in the mid-1980s when it became quite apparent that hinge pin hole tolerances in barrels and frames varied a lot, usually on the loose side of tolerances. These pins are meant to be an interference fit, meaning they are a force fit and must be tapped in with a hammer. The result is a barrel that opens and closes like a bank vault door instead of rattling around like a pea in a boxcar. With the barrel held securely and consistently from shot to shot, accuracy is improved, often VERY dramatically. Bellm Oversize Hinge Pins are not approved by Thompson/Center Arms or any other barrel maker. They are a custom application tailored to give you a precision fit and the best performance possible, which is something others do not address. Approved or not, I invite you to join the thousands of others who are enjoying the optimum accuracy a precision hinge pin fit provides. It is one of the best investments you can make in a Contender at any price and does absolutely no harm to either barrel or frame hinge pin holes if you follow the test for fit described on this site and in the instructions packed with the pins. At least 80% of factory barrels and frames accept the Bellm Oversize Hinge Pins, perhaps more. They also fit the majority of custom or "after market" barrels. They remove both the side to side and vertical play at the hinge and help equalize the side to side differences in frame hinge pin hole diameters. Do the simple wiggle test with the stock pin in each of the three holes, barrel lug and the two frame holes. If you can feel ANY movement at all on the pin when you try to wiggle it in each hole, it indicates you need a larger pin to take the play out of that hole. You will be able to feel any relative difference in fit from one hole to the next and will often find that one side of the frame hole is larger than the other. The oversize pin helps to equalize the fit side to side and eliminate side to side movement of the barrel. The oversize pin will also take out vertical movement at the hinge and tend to tighten lockup at the locking bolts. With the shake and rattle removed, as would be expected, any inaccuracy due to a loose fit is corrected. If you have opened and closed a high dollar break open trap or skeet gun, you know what a good fit feels like. You can have the same high quality custom fit. Quite a bargain. "Do I need an oversize hinge pin?" is a common question, to which I have to answer, "It's a no brainer." Tighten things up at the hinge like they should be with a Bellm Oversize Hinge Pin and watch groups tighten. Periodically someone asks if we have "stainless" hinge pins, and the answer is no. "Stainless" is not only not needed, it is the wrong material for the interference fit required at the hinge. Stainless against stainless is more prone to galling. Therefore, for BOTH stainless barrels and frames and blued barrels and frames we use only deep case hardened, alloy steel, which will take bluing, but instead, we leave them brightly polished and do not blue them. 86L20 material - case hardened to 60 RC - precision ground to .0002 +/- Use the .3752 pin as a gauge pin. Simply lubricate the hinge pin, frame and barrel hole with a common cutting/tapping or heavy viscosity oil. Center the hinge pin on a given hole checking for axial play and resistance. We are looking for a TIGHT tolerant fit that requires light tapping from a small jewelers type hammer. If it is not tight enough, consider it as a gauging tool to determine if a larger pin is called for. When installing the oversized hinge pin, ALWAYS install the stock hinge pin first, then tap out of the way with the oversized pin. Always remember the lube, I suggest a good quality cutting/tapping oil due to it's extreme anti-bearing properties. Taking accurate measurements of pins and holes is common among machinists, but not in the realm most folks are familiar with. Thus, the best solution I have found to bridge this technology gap is to simply use a process of elimination by going from one size pin to the next. Anyone can tell if a pin is loose or tight, right? The Encore hinge pin system is a well proven system. "Trial and error" is working very well, and groups are tightening. That is what counts. So, start with the .3752 pin unless you have a means of accurately measuring your hinge pin holes in your barrels and frames. By the way, calipers are not accurate enough to give more than a rough idea. Trying a pin is still the best method available to most shooters. Add a .3752 BELLM Hinge pin to your cart and get started toward better shooting Contender barrels.
