Description: This is definitely one of the superstars of the begonia world! I will be the first to tell you that as a small plant in a pot it is one ugly duckling. But like that awkward teenage girl in school who becomes a goddess this plant when it matures and flowers is the same. Its long strap-like leaves need to be lifted off the floor of the terrarium or greenhouse or it can be trained to climb vertically. Patrick Blanc has great pictures of it in situ. When not in flower it looks more like a fern which is another positive. It likes/loves 1 hour of bottom heat which brings the humidity up to around 90%. This is a Cameroonian begonia that was extremely rare from Elephant Mountain. One could safely assume that it has been "orphaned" or will be soon by humans raping the earth for a profit. In general the pictures of it are positively horrible but give it time to fill out, plus a large enough space and you will be rewarded for years to come. The above pictures are of the same plant over a course of about 2 years. It is the central focal point of a very competitive 80 gallon terrarium and will flower for up to 4 months of the year.
