Mr. McCarty must have been having a ton of fun when he created this grouse. It is huge at nearly 2 pounds! Note the deep slit eyes, the no-nonsense expression on it's face, and the serious demeanor. I wonder if it is a nesting mama? This bird is approximately 6" high and 7" from head to tail. He has a combed texture, and has dark eyes. Like most of McCarty's critters, this one is very abstract with just a few necessary details suggesting to you that it is a ruffled grouse. Each piece of McCartys work is unique and none look alike. All McCartys pottery is crafted from Mississippi mud in the Mississippi delta.
