Description: Name: Notogoneus osculus Age: Eocene Formation: Green River Formation Location: Kemmerer, Wyoming Size: Fish is over 8" long, frame is 14.5" X 19.1"! We recently acquired some nice fossils from the late Joseph Butterfield Collection (NJ). We will be auctioning these fossils here over the next few weeks. This is a very historic specimen of Notogoneus osculus fossil fish from the Green River Formation of Wyoming. Notogoneus had a down-turned, sucker-like mouth - its toothless mouth suggests this type was a bottom-feeder. This beautiful fossil fish has great chocolate-brown color that contrasts beautifully with the cream-colored matrix. The impressive fish has spectacular bone structure and extremely fine backbone detail - even the head, fins, and tail are all fully defined. The fabulous fish is perfectly centered on the rectangular plate of matrix that has been professionally prepared and framed by the Master, the one and only C.J. Ulrich, in the 1970's or 1980's (see his legacy here- https://www.ulrichsfossilgallery.com/about ). This is a highly collectible and extremely displayable framed fossil Notogoneus fish, prepared and SIGNED IN THE ROCK by the Master himself - what a great conversation piece!A Certificate of Authenticity from EXTINCTIONS.com is included with this item.
