Description: Pictured is an outstanding blue & white sponged-decorated spatter spatterware wash basin bowl. Wash basin bowls are infrequently seen by contrast to their accompanying water pitchers. They seem to have taken quite a bit of abuse in their service of use. The bowl is lavishly decorated in the center with a sizeable bull's eye design. The interior rim has one & half rows of large circular "smoke rings" and the exterior body has an identical sponged "smoke ring" design around the midsection. The bowl has great color contrast & eye-appeal. The deep bowl measures 3 1/8" in height, 12 1/2" in diameter, & dates from 1860 - 1885, or perhaps slightly earlier. It's in excellent condition with a single chip on the underside rim, see pics. It would make for a great centerpiece arrangement.
