Description: Such a rare piece from the late 1800s! This piece dates between the Georgian to Victorian Era. The luckenbooth brooches were made in Europe ( where this piece was purchased) during the 16th century and worn as a charm by women to ward off witches. Later it was given as a gift of love, loyalty and protection between lovers. They were sold by jewellers in locked booths on the Royal mile in Edingburg during the 17th century, hence the name luckenbooth. Oh, a piece with such charming history is always worthy of admiration. Many luckenbooth brooches today do not have the original design with the crown atop the entwined hearts and exceptionally rare, is this Paved Paste design. Paste stones were painstakingly handmade during the Georgian era. They were cut and faceted by hand to imitate gemstones. In this modern era, this rare piece can be worn for its charming appeal or gifted to a sweetheart. it is in excellent antique condition twinkling at every angle. Sparkling and glittering 150 + years old piece that looks very charming when worn. It is 1 inch just over 3/4 inch. In excellent condition. Fully test as sterling Silver. A most precious and sentimental piece for gifting of making a part of any fine collection. Please ask questions. Thank you and do look at my other jewelry from vintage to antiques.
