He first studied Karate at Takushoku University and later at the Japan Karate Association Headquarters in Tokyo under Masatoshi Nakayama, who is now 8th Dan. He won the All Japan Championship twice running. On the first occasion he won in spite of a broken hand. Mr. Kanazawa is Chief Instructor to the Karate Union of Great Britain and has been teaching here for about three years. He has made an outstanding contribution to the advancement of British Karate. He has thought a great deal about Karate and has found new meanings for many of the Kata movements. Thanks are due to Mr. Ikeno, official translator of the Japanese Embassy in London for translating the introduction and to Mr. Takahashi, 3rd Dan, Instructor of the Karate Union of Great Britain, for posing with Mr. Kanazawa for the photographs showing application of the Kata Movements. As one who is interested in the visual arts I feel that the Katas of Mr. Kanazawa have a great beauty of movement and it is always a pleasure to photograph him performing them. CRISPIN ROGERS.
