This one-of-a-kind cutie pie came to us as with a dead-boring (and kinda beat) creamy round pearl. Eytan replaced the offending article with a sweet, silvery-white baroque akoya, and for a bit of added oom-pah-pah, he embedded a diamond, neatly set in a 14 karat white gold bezel. The diamond is full-cut natural, earth-mined and untreated. Eytan rates it H color and SI1 or SI2 clarity. The ring is a bypass style with a puffy front "tail" embellished with three itty-bitty star-set diamonds. The diamonds are single-cuts and probably no more than 0.005 carats each. The ring is stamped "KACO," which was a trademark of the Wm R. Katz Company. This company was based in Dallas, and from looking at other items with this stamp, it was probably a jewelry store rather than a jewelry manufacturer. This company or store is apparently no longer in business. The Kaco trademark was registered in 1956, so the ring dates from after 1956. The style would have been popular into the 1960's, but by the 1970's, both single cut diamonds and star settings were increasingly considered old school, so we think the ring is around 60 years old. The ring is also stamped "14K" plus some sort of stock or catalog number ("7567").
