Only one BL1 was ever built (bought by C&EI); the BL2 is virtually identical. These early EMD (GM) four-axle B-B road switchers are often considered the "ugly duckling" of Diesel models from EMD, but the BL2 design led the way for the company's widely successful GP series of Diesel locomotives.
