Print #: 181/900 The print is signed by Robert Taylor and four Tangmere Wing Pilots: Lionel ‘Buck’ Casson Sir Denis Crowley-Milling Johnnie Johnson George ‘Grumpy’ Unwin The print depicts Group Captain Sir Douglas Bader in his MkV Spitfire, Wing Leader of the Tangmere, made up of Canadian pilots. Bader assumed command of the Wing after the fall of France. Bader was able to revitalize the demoralized young pilots and the Wing generated a number of WWII’s greatest pilots. Bader was reinstated to duty in the RAF at the outbreak of WWII, he had lost his legs in a flying accident in 1931, but returned to duty with artificial legs, piloting a Spitfire in the thick of the action at the time of Dunkirk.
