An Exhibit Card 1980 Hall of Fame ~ postcard size card BABE RUTH ~ New York Yankees Darker sepia variation with white back This is an original card issued by Paul Marchant, then-new owner of the longtime card publisher, the Exhibit Supply Company (ESCO).A summary of quantities issued for 1980 Exhibit Baseball Hall of Fame cards:Early in 1980, collector/dealer/ESCO owner and manufacturer Paul Marchant issued the regular set (which included some all-stars not yet in the Baseball Hall of Fame) consisting of 32 cards. On those he had 5,000 sets printed: 2,000 sepia, 1,500 red tint and 1,500 blue tint. They were all on white back stock. A few months later (also in 1980) Mr. Marchant issued his set of 32 Baseball Hall of Fame cards. He utilized the same printer and requested the same breakdown on quantities printed using the same white card stock as the earlier set. When he went to pick up his order, however, they were found to be on dark stock. After some negotiations, Mr. Marchant had them print another run of 5,000 sets on white back stock with the same breakdown on colors. In a buy on eBay a few years ago we acquired some of the Hall of Fame Exhibits which seem to be in two intensities: a darker and a lighter sepia/brown tone with white backs. This may simply be due to ink saturation by the printer but we are making them available as separate listings from which you may choose. This Card: Darker Sepia with White BackTo reiterate: Exhibit Supply issued this card in three colors (sepia, blue and red) with backs in white or brown. This offer is for one Sepia card with White back. The sepia color seems to be darker than others we have observed. Card size is: 3-3/8" by 5-3/8" - which will fit comfortably in standard 4-pocket collector sheets. Condition: Near-Mint - check the high-resolution scans. A blue background has been supplied to assist in evaluating card edges and corners.
