BABE RUTH Signs w/ New York Yankees MLB Baseball from Boston 1920 NYC Newspaper

Description: BABE RUTH Signs w/ New York Yankees MLB Baseball from Boston 1920 NYC Newspaper Offered is an original, historic, & collectible old newspaper: NEW YORK TIMES, January 8, 1920   * Babe Ruth joins the New York Yankees * Biggest deal (Boston flop) in sport's history ? The sports page (page 18) has a banner headings: "NEW YORK AMERICANS DECIDE TO RETURN TO JACKSONVILLE FOR SPRING TRAINING THIS YEAR" with subheads: "YANKEES TO TRAIN AT JACKSONVILLE" "Harry Sparrow Completes Arrangements for Club to Return to Florida City" "Seeking Other Players" "Col. Rupert Plans to Close More Deals Before New York Team Starts on Southern Trip". With Babe Ruth having just signed with the Yankees a few days prior, it is not surprising this article has much concerning it: "...With Babe Ruth on the club the Yankees will become a strong attraction in Florida, and with other players whom Colonel Ruppert expects to get to strengthen the club the eyes of fans all over the country will be on Manager Huggins's players...". Also: "Manager Miller Huggins of the Yankees is speeding eastward with the signed agreement of Babe Ruth that he will accept the terms offered by the New York club to play with the Yanks next season. Just what arrangement Huggins' made with Ruth will not be known until the manager arrives here...Ruth is bound by the two years contract which the Yanks took over from the Boston Red Sox in the big $125,000 deal...it is believed that Manager Huggins has offered Ruth a large enough bonus to satisfy the home run king. Ruth expects to come East himself in a couple of weeks...Many Boston baseball people are already offering their condolences to Manager Huggins because they fear that he is going to have a hard time managing Ruth..." with more on this. A subhead notes: "Mayor Regrets Ruth's Sale" with the text beginning: "There is still much grief in Boston over the passing of Ruth from the classic atmosphere of the Hub. Mayor Peters egrets to see Ruth go. He says: 'The loss of Ruth is greatly to be exerted. He is a splendid ball player of natural ability...It is my hope that the money received for the sale of Ruth will be used in a manner that will have its result in Boston winning the championship. New York gains while Boston loses..'..." and more. A wonderful article concerning Babe Ruth's fateful move from Boston to New York, with some thoughts on Ruth's future never coming to fruition. Terrific to have this report in a New York newspaper. Complete in 40 pages, disbound with binding indents at the blank spine, generally in good condition. Please Note: All of our offerings are 100% authentic! We do not offer reprints or reproductions of any kind. They are guaranteed to be original! Links to Archival Storage Options & Certificates of Authenticity Are Below! Historical reports may be beautiful or ugly, but they are always informative. While we rejoice in the beautiful (heroic, discovery, amazing feats, etc.), we at Historys Newsstand also offer "the ugly" for we are determined to learn from the wrongs of the past - understanding, to do so, we must be willing to look these wrongs directly in the face and shout "NO MORE!". It is for this reason many Black Americans collect historic slave ads, Jews collect reports regarding the Holocaust, women collect coverage of the Womens Suffrage Movement, etc.. If you find any to be offensive, we agree! Hopefully this is an indication we are moving in the right direction. Domestic Shipping Policy... For this specific item, A U.S. winner pays $10.00 S&H.
