Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist. . .Periodically we experience problems with our scanner. Today is one of those days. Depending upon which view you choose, the first scan will show horizontal lines and/or cross hatching marks. Rest assured, these are not on the card itself. Usually scanning problems are confined to color pictures but today it's "advanced" to black and white! (You will note that the second scan (reverse side of the card) exhibits none of these problems.) 1977 WASSCA Convention Superstars | Autographed in Blue Sharpie just above his facsimile autograph AUTOGRAPH: EARL AVERILL (1902-1983) , Cleveland Indians (1929-1939) sponsored by Shakey's Pizza for the Washington State Sports Collectors Association Convention in 1977 Earl Averill, who had been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame two years earlier (1975) was one of three Superstar autograph guests at the 1977 Washington State Sports Collectors Association (WASSCA) convention. Averill was joined by then-future Hall of Famer Johnny Mize and all-time slugging great "Indian" Bob Johnson. The trio signed free autographs for all attendees and spent hours talking Baseball with Seattle area collectors and fans.Card size is: 2-1/4" by 3" and was personally autographed by Earl Averill in blue Sharpie just above his facsimile autograph (darker blue) on the front. ROY SIEVERS (1902-1983) Earl Averill was a certified star from the outset of his 13-year big league career. In his first official MLB at-bat, Averill sent star hurler Earl Whitehill's offering over Cleveland's League Park fence for his first of 238 home runs. He broke the Indians single-season homer record his rookie year and went on to record multiple team records. For decades he was the Indians all-time leader in a half dozen or more categories, including: Runs scored, Triples, Home Runs, RBI, Extra Base Hits and Total Bases. He posted a .322 lifetime batting average and .540 slugging percentage while with Cleveland. He was one of just a handful of Major Leaguers to record 400+ doubles, 100+ triples, 200+ home runs, and 1,000+ RBI and Runs scored while batting .300+ and slugging .500+. He was selected for the first 6 American League All-Star Teams and 4 All-Major League Teams by The Sporting News. He was elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1975. He gave graciously of his time - signing free autographs for hobbyists via mail and at a number of early Washington State Sports Collectors Association shows of the 1970's.
