Description: In 1959, the Austrian Mint began a 40-year run of commemorative 50-schilling coins, beginning with this one celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Tyrolean Rebellion of 1809. In that year, Austrian peasants in the County of Tyrol rose up against Napoleon's occupying armies, but were defeated and their leader, Andreas Hofer, was executed. Five years later, however, Napoleon was finally defeated, and Tyrol was returned to Austria. A historical coin, brilliant and seemingly uncirculated.
