Description: AUDUBON Magazine / Walt Disney Studio 1960 Bill Dover P.L. Travers Mary Poppins Historic Walt Disney Studio Treasures from Saturday's Toys presents... an archival issue of Audubon Magazine from the historic Library of the Walt Disney Studio; January - February 1960... featuring an update on the perilous declines then being experiencing within the populations of the American Bald Eagle. Includes a rare studio reference to Disney executive story editor Bill Dover (aka William B. Dover)... who is credited with meeting P.L. Travers in London during final negotiations over creation of the "Mary Poppins" story treatment. By the spring of 1961, Dover would then be tasked with escorting Pamela Travers throughout her visit to Los Angeles and to Burbank's Walt Disney Studio. It was during this 1961 visit that Travers would work with the Disney story team in development of that initial story treatment. In addition, contrary to urban legend (and as presented in Disney's feature film of "Saving Mr. Banks")... it was not Walt Disney who hosted Travers on her one and only visit to Disneyland. As Walt had come down with a cold and had to send his regrets, in his place he assigned the responsibility to Bill Dover, who then escorted Travers to Disneyland on Walt's behalf on Easter Sunday (April 2, 1961). It was during the year prior to Dover's meeting Pamela Travers that he checked out this issue of Audubon. As was common practice at the time, issues of select new magazines would be routed to key writers and researchers at the Disney Studio, as processed through the Walt Disney Studio Research Library. This was "Copy 1" as was issued for Bill Dover's review. As Dover did not receive a screen credit for his significant contributions in the development of the "Mary Poppins" project... this may be one of the few opportunities to acquire an historic period document from the Walt Disney Studio that specifically references "Dover" by name. Includes original check-out signature from Jeff Fellows (unconfirmed researcher) Features articles such as:Experiences of "The Elephant Hunter" (researcher of the Double Elephant Folio of Audubon's "The Birds of America")Tribute to John H. BakerOlaus J. Murie Receives Audubon MedalFuture of North American WaterfowlThe "Bad" Wolverine of the NorthSnow Bunnies in the ArcticStatus of the Bald Eagle in FloridaWildlife SanctuariesThe Arch that Stands Alone (Delicate Arch, Utah; Arches National Monument / Park)Attracting Birds... and much more A wonderful issue with a broad scope of interests in nature. Good condition overall; from an highly significant period in the history of the original Walt Disney Studio.
