Rare Unfinished Chatelaine Minaudiere Foundation

Description: Hello Judith Leiber collectors! I will be listing several interesting and rare foundations or unfinished minaudiere which were purchased over the last several years from a well known and reputable national auction house. I was very lucky that I was to purchase a few of these very rare metal foundations that were attributed to Judith Leiber. This metal minaudiere foundation is known as the “chatelaine” design. It would remain as one of her favorite bags that she designed and there are countless decorated patterns and variations applied to her classic chatelaine shape. Her chatelaine bag marked a key turning point in her career. The chatelaine bag is probably the most recognized design and remains a key piece that most collectors seek for their collections. I am only aware of only one other national auction house that has offered these Judith Leiber foundations, making these examples very rare. This unfinished foundation was acquired for research and study purposes. Approximately 4.25inches in width, 4.75 inches in height and 2.0 inches in thickness. The overall condition is good. There are several small dings to the side of the purse. These small dents are extremely hard to capture in a photograph due to the high reflective body. The minaudiere opens by pressing down on a top button. (This button has an inset area that is usually holds a concaved oval gemstone when the surface is decorated.) On both sides of the interior body is a “08” number scratched so that the two pieces to correctly come back together after the plating process. As expected, the quality construction is remarkable. This minaudiere foundation is not signed. For the seasoned Judith Leiber collector, this is a wonderful study piece depicting her favorite and life changing design.This item will be carefully packed and mailed by USPS with insurance to confirmed addresses within the United States.
