Description: Here we have an Antique Alex MATHIESON & SON, GLASGOW, Dble. Iron 'Ogee & Bevel' Profile Complex Molding Plane 1.5" Cut. Alexander Mathieson and Son were reportedly the most prolific plane makers in Britain. He and his sons operated their firm from approx. 1854 - 1910 and manufactured high quality planes and other woodworking tools. They primarily operated from Glasgow and Edinburgh, Scotland. The toe is stamped with his makers mark, which also has the original 'spring' lines. The heel is stamped 5/8. The plane is in very good 'used tool' condition with minor wear to the finishes. The two wedges have a little bruising. Sole and mouth, along with the sections of 'boxing', are very good with very minor wear. The cutting irons are in very good, little used condition and sharp, but should be checked before use. NO cracks, breaks or repairs !! These "Dble. Cutting Iron" Planes are very hard to find, especially in very good condition, as this one is !! Plane is approx. 9-1/2"L x 2-7/16"W.
