Founded by MARIA RAMBEAU, S.W.O.R.D. would also turn its attention to other types of "sentient weapons" including super-humans and "life-forms" like VISION, whom it was studying when the agency First Appeared on screen in 2020's WandaVision series. S.W.O.R.D., which First Appeared in cameo Astonishing X-Men #3 and then in full in Astonishing X-Men #6, would also figure prominently in Marvel Studios' 2023 series Secret Invasion and in the movie The Marvels, in which several scenes of the film took place on the S.W.O.R.D. space station itself. Astonishing X-Men #6 also featured the First Full Appearance of the character in charge of S.W.O.R.D. -- ABIGAIL BRAND. The MCU elected not to bring Brand into the MCU, although some aspects of her character were incorporated into Emilia Clarke's heroine, G'IAH, in the Secret Invasion series on Disney+. Aside from the MCU, Astonishing X-Men's "Gifted" story-arc also served as half of the plot for the Fox Studios' film X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), in which the government had developed a cure for mutants that would have disastrous consequences. Marvel also released an Astonishing X-Men: Gifted Motion Comic in 2009 through iTunes and on DVD, adapting the entire first six issues of the comic book series.
