Art Deco 1935 Photo Print FRENCH RIVIERA 23X10 PALAIS de la JETEE COTE d'AZURE Click images to enlarge Description A rare 23" long original Art Deco photographic print of the "French Riviera", la Cote d'Azur in Nice France, showing a stunning view of the Crystal Casino or Palais de la Jetee. The amazing Crystal Casino was inspired by the Crystal Palace in London (destroyed by fire in 1936). " In 1891 the construction of du casino de la Jetée-Promenade began... it remained until the end of WWII when the Germans began to dismantle the structure stripping it of it's valuable metals." So this dates within a decade of it's demise, the casino pier was actually closed in 1942. Not sure if this would be considered a panoramic or wide angle photograph. This is an original 1930's paper art print, not an original photograph. Original frame much in the tradition of art prints, such as Maxfield Parrish, sold with frames during this period and earlier. Color is super saturated in the manner of hand colored photo postcards from the late 1920's - 30's. The dust cover of this print has 1935 written on it. I found a few similar postcard views with saturated color of the Cote d'Azure dating from 1929 and early 1930's , so the 1935 date is in line with this type of photographic print. Love all of the people on the promenade, particularly the women in their cloche hats, most in coats, some though in sleeveless dresses. Great addition to any Art Deco, casino or antique historic "crystal building" collection. Top left corner reads " 53 la Cote d'Azure - NICE- La Promenade des Anglais et le", bottom left " Adia ", top right "Les Belles Editions Francaines, 2 Rue Trachel, Nice, A.I.D.A., IMP, NICE". This print appears to be in beautiful antique condition, no staining or tears visible through glass, I have not had it out of frame for inspection. A few very small & minor scuffs visible when inspecting. Displays beautifully. Back dust cover torn as you see. Original wooden frame has surface wear but overall still good. Rt side of frame has some damage to surface-see detail pic., could be touched up pretty easily if desired. Measures approx. 10" wide x 22-3/4" long.
