Description: Argentina to USA Envelope 5 cent cancelled 1937 for steamship Northern Prince I am going through some of my late grandfather's possessions, and he has some interesting postage stamps and envelopes. Grandpa lived in Ft. Madison, Iowa, where Sheaffer Pen Company was and still is headquartered. At the time, fine pens like theirs were often sold in jewelry stores, so Grandpa has envelopes from lots of jewelers, bookstores and stationers around the world that must have once held payments or orders. This posted envelope was slit at the top and right edge with a letter opener to remove contents. Envelope is from F. Plata y Plata in Buenos Aires, Argentina to the W.A. Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison, Iowa. This is a very attractive envelope. In the top left corner is red illustration of Crown Typewriter ribbon and the words in Spanish " The best-selling typewriter ribbon in the world." Below the addressee's address is an illustration of a Van Dyke drawing pencil. 5 cent stamp is clear and in nice condition. Normal handling wear. Postmarked 30 July 1937. Typed above the address is the instruction that this envelope was to be carried on the steamship "Northern Prince." I found news references from October of this same year of an American polo team coming to Buenos Aires on this ship. I will ship as soon as I receive payment.
