Description: 30 plus seeds and free shipping! Arbol Chili / Chile de Arbol (also sometimes called Birds beak chile and Rat's tail chile) are small and thin Mexican peppers, growing to 2-3 inches long and less than a 1/2 inch wide. They mature to a bright, vibrant red, and are harvested and used at this stage. They are both edible and ornamental. Chile de Árbol means “tree chili” in Spanish, a name which refers to the woody stem of the pepper. Heat wise they range between 15,000 and 30,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU) having a slightly nutty and smokey flavor. Arbol Chili can be traded with the cayenne when cooking. They can be used in any dish to add heat and spice, especially chili, salsa and hot sauces. One very popular use is for making chile de arbol salsa and a red sauce salsa roja. These are one of the most popular chilies in Mexico, third only to the Ancho and Guajillo Chilies. This is a low maintenance plant, easy to grow. It will grow virtually anywhere with warm weather and 80 to 100 frost-free days in summer. Will grow effortlessly from seeds, which germinate reliably if kept under very warm moist conditions. Sow indoors six to eight weeks before the last spring frost to reach a mature size by planting time.
