Description: Aquamarine, MicaPala Chief MineCorner Hole ProspectChief Mountain, Pala Mining DistrictSan Diego County, California 2.5 x 1.5 x .80 Inches6.5 x 4 x 2 CentimetersSmall Cabinet This specimen is from a historical locality and not easy to find on today's marketplaces. The Pala Chief Mine is one of the oldest operating gem mines in the United States and is well known for world class Kunzite and Tourmaline specimens. Aquamarine has been discovered throughout the history of the mine but modern high quality specimens like this are far and few between. The focal crystal is around 5cm and it's jutting out of a conglomeration of aqua crystals covered with a nice touch of mica. One of the aquas at the base is terminated further enhancing the aesthetics of this specimen. You will notice some interesting etching patterns/sections on the main crystal which may be from schorl that was previously clinging to the surface. Another interesting aspect is the "tornado" like phantom at the tip of the crystal - If your passion is to collect very unique specimens from historical mines this piece is perfect for you!
