Description: I love the scene on the cover of this antique Victorian era silver plate butter dish. On both sides of the cover there is a scene of woman in a boat surrounded by flowers, with a bird flying above. The cover will polish up easily. There is stubborn tarnish on the underside of the lower portion. Like all of these Victorian butter dishes, this one originally had a glass insert to hold the round cake of butter. A bit of ice would sit below it to keep the butter chilled. The glass insert is now missing. The diameter of the opening is approximately 5 1/8". The overall height to the top of the handle on the cover with the cover in place is approximately 8 1/2"
